Our Story

The tale of Estancia Alpaca began with our beloved mother, Ina Boshoff, who fell deeply enamored with the gentle and intelligent Alpaca during a visit to South America. Her fervor for these majestic creatures was so contagious that the Boshoff family welcomed their first 12 Alpacas into their lives back in 2001.

Since then, we’ve embarked on a journey, steadfast in our commitment to honor her legacy. Today, over 200 Alpacas grace the sprawling expanse of our farm, Fairview Estates, nestled amidst the breathtaking sandstone cliffs between Clarens and Fouriesburg.

Our path has been marked by trials and triumphs, with invaluable lessons learned along the way. In 2022, fueled by our collective ingenuity, we launched the Alpaca bed pillow project, equipped with our own industrial wool processing facility. This endeavor not only addressed a significant gap in the market but also showcased the remarkable qualities of Alpaca fiber, particularly its hypoallergenic and asthmatic-friendly properties.

As the years passed, our Alpaca family grew, ushering in more births annually and thus necessitating regular shearing. Serendipitously, our journey intersected with that of Chantelle Hamilton from Simply Wool in Clocolan, leading to a beautiful collaboration. Simply Wool empowers local women from diverse backgrounds to transform animal fleeces into exquisite handcrafted and knitted products.

Providing Chantelle’s artisans with clean, carded wool expedited the hand-spinning process, resulting in the creation of stunning blankets in various sizes and captivating patterns. Every spin of the wheel and every weave of the loom is a testament to the timeless artistry of these women, who now have the opportunity to earn their own livelihoods, educate their children, establish financial independence, and hone an ancient craft—all while tending to their families within the comfort of their homes.
